Song Frozen in Time

Song Frozen in Time

Continuing the theme from yesterday, here is no apology water frozen by the shutter image. I am always amazed at what gravity, rocks, and light can do with this peaty water. You could take a thousand pics, and no two would catch the same forms, the same play of light, the same energy. This, to me, is a high energy shot.

The trick with a shot like this, where you have such a wide range of light values, is, of course, to get the exposure right. I used heavy Exposure Compensation and underexposed to save the highlights, and then brought the shadow back up in Lightroom when I post-processed. The net effect is very like what I saw, and what I visualized in the field.

Sony DSC H50 at about 80mm equivalent. F5.6 @ 1/1000th @ ISO 100. Programed auto with -1.7 EV exposure compensation.

In Lightroom, heavy Recovery for the highlights. Fairly heavy Fill Light for the shadows. Added Clarity and Vibrance and Landscape sharpen preset.

I love this pictue…It looks like rough water, but then it looks like frozen rough water. I guess what I am trying to say is that you captured something very unique, and it is somewhat mesmerizing as you imagine how it look in real life as a a moving river. Rivers are very unpredictable and dangerous. Maybe that is what gets me with this shot. Anyway, I am no pro or expert.I take photos for fun and like to experiment, however I can spend hours looking at another photographers’ pictures if they interest me and really get my attention. I even like the shot you say you were critisized on. The one with the bush of pink roses, and the brightly colored items behind it…I have a certain liking for that one also. I dont know if I like the one that is a little fuzzy, or the one after you touched it up…They are both interesting photos. By the way I would like to know if you have your own site where I can look at your pictures. The group is great but I am really getting too many emails from differant people in the group, which is what this is all about, however My computer is logged up. So if you have a website and it would be okay to access and view your work I would appreciate it. You are my favorite out of the many, many, pictures I have seen by others in the group…Respectfully Yours, Charlotte Aucoin My email is c.aucoin62@live.com Again Thank you for your time.
